She Undressed on a London Road. Here's What Happened

Last week, a blindfolded young woman named Jae West, survivor of an eating disorder, stripped down to her underwear at a busy intersection in London's Piccadilly Circus, holding a placard which read:

Unsurprisingly, the video uploaded on YouTube on August 14 has gone viral with a vengeance, gathering over a million views.

The idea was to celebrate her body, imperfections and all, and encourage others to do the same, and this statistic will help explain why:
'60% of adults report feeling ashamed of the way they look' - Centre for Appearance Research 2012.

The statistic above is appalling but not surprising, considering we are bombarded every day with advertisements selling a particular type of body, appearance and personality we must fit into. As actresses like Kristen Stewart slam the unreal standards of beauty they are held up to, what hope is there for the rest of us? Little wonder then, that so many of us are racked by self-doubt, besieged by body acceptance issues.

And so, this social experiment that Jae took part in.

In a blog, Jae says she was inspired to do the project after watching Amanda Palmer's TED talk "The Art of Asking" in which Palmer undressed and asked her fans to write on her. "That night as I was going to bed, the idea of linking the vulnerability of nudity with self-esteem issues in a public setting came to mind. Just the thought of looking down at my body and seeing it covered in love hearts from other people brought tears to my eyes. It was a reality check of how harsh we can be on ourselves, we really can be our own worst critics", reads her blog on Inspiralight.

Let us then leave having watched this video, a little wiser and perhaps more confident. Here's to celebrating ourselves and our bodies because, as they say, age and weight are just numbers and none of us need to do the math, do we now?

‘Manjhi’ review: Any film helmed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui is worthy of being watched

Manjhi review, Manjhi movie, Manjhi, Manjhi movie review, Manjhi the Mountain movie review, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Ketan MehtaA man trying to cut through a mountain with a hammer and chisel is akin to a man trying to walk on water. Dashrath Manjhi, native of a tiny village near Gaya, manages this unbelievably stupendous task he sets out for himself, and in so doing proves that old adage: where there is a will, there is always a way. Like many Bollywood biopics, Ketan Mehta’s film says it was ‘inspired’ by the real-life story of the ‘mountain man’ who toiled for more than 20 years trying to hack a path through hard rock with his humble tools, and indomitable spirit. It does not say ‘based on’, which would then strictly confine the film to the events that actually took place. The uneasy mix of the real and the imaginary, the trying to inject drama, and the swelling background music, renders the film less effective than it could have been, despite its inspiring subject, and its fine actors.

Manjhi review, Manjhi movie, Manjhi, Manjhi movie review, Manjhi the Mountain movie review, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Ketan Mehta

Any film that is helmed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui – and this is a film he does helm, instead of being the supporting act – is worthy of being watched. As Dashrath Manjhi, who sets out at first to do nothing more ambitious than staking claim on his child-bride-now-grown-into-a-beautiful-woman Phaguniya (Radhika Apte), and then sets himself up to confront the mountain which swallows up the woman he loves, Nawaz strains every sinew, and remains consistently watchable despite the shifts in tone. But even he cannot make the film soar.

There are things that Ketan Mehta has always been able to do well. Creating a village (this is in the late 50s and 60s) in the clutches of upper-caste ‘zamindaars’ is something we’ve seen in his best work, ‘Bhavani Bhavai’ and ‘Mirch Masala’. Here the vicious Thakur is played to the hilt by Tigmanshu Dhulia (making you remember his character in ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’). The excellent Pankaj Tripathi plays his greedy son. The father and son rule with an iron hand: they are ‘raja’, and the poor, ignorant villagers, enslaved for life, are ‘praja’: Delhi is very far away from the darkness of Bihar.

Dashrath’s early ebullience which springs from his defiant nature leads him into Phaguniya’s arms: their romance is earthy and playful and the two make us smile, but you keep getting the feeling that they were made to be more ‘filmi’ than was necessary. His later steely resolve, as he ages and withers, is better channeled because he has to play off only against himself, though again you wish he had been given more : what is the enduring relationship of man and the mountain? He starts with hate, and yet, he has to learn to know its contours to be able to break it. What keeps him going? Nawaz doesn’t get that depth and an inner life to play with.

If he had, this would have been a great film.

‘Manjhi’ Star Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Pankaj Tripathi, Ashraf Ul Haque, Tigmanshu Dhulia

Robbery in Guangzhou, China

During a robbery in Guangzhou, China, the bank robber shouted to everyone in the bank: "Don't move. The money belongs to the State. Your life belongs to you."

Everyone in the bank laid down quietly. This is called "Mind Changing Concept” Changing the conventional way of thinking.

When a lady lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her: "Please be civilized! This is a robbery and not a rape!"

This is called "Being Professional” Focus only on what you are trained to do!

When the bank robbers returned home, the younger robber (MBA-trained) told the older robber (who has only completed Year 6 in primary school): "Big brother, let's count how much we got."

Image result for robbery
The older robber rebutted and said: "You are very stupid. There is so much money it will take us a long time to count. Tonight, the TV news will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!"

This is called "Experience.” Nowadays, experience is more important than paper qualifications!

After the robbers had left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. But the supervisor said to him: "Wait! Let us take out $10 million from the bank for ourselves and add it to the $70 million that we have previously embezzled from the bank”.

This is called "Swim with the tide.” Converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!

The supervisor says: "It will be good if there is a robbery every month."

This is called "Killing Boredom.” Personal Happiness is more important than your job.

The next day, the TV news reported that $100 million was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count $20 million. The robbers were very angry and complained: "We risked our lives and only took $20 million. The bank manager took $80 million with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated than to be a thief!"

This is called "Knowledge is worth as much as gold!"

The bank manager was smiling and happy because his losses in the share market are now covered by this robbery.

This is called "Seizing the opportunity.” Daring to take risks!

So who are the real robbers here?

Terrifying moment a wall of fire stunt goes wrong

Watch the moment a stuntman goes through a wall of fire on the bonnet of an SUV

While performing a stunt known as the "Human Battering Ram" this stuntman was thrown under the car he was riding on moments after going head first through a wall of fire.
The dramatic video, captured in Easley, South Carolina, shows the car become engulfed in flames as the stuntman's head breaks the wall of fire, only for him to fall from the bonnet of the SUV and proceed to be run over.

Somehow the daredevil jogs away from the scene seemingly unscathed whilst putting out parts of his suit that were in flames.

Moments later he collapses but once again manages to get back to his feet with the help of his crew, much to the relief of the audience who applaud the him.
The stuntman is thought to have escaped with only minor injuries.
